当前应用是否没有体现出EPON和GPON差异来？

我一直疑惑，现在EPON的FTTB模式好像用处不大，选EPON、GPON甚至点对点GE口都没有关系，我接触几个公司的设备，上行都可以另外选配成GE口、GPON口、EPON口。
在实际应用中，EPON也是一个固定带宽分配，每个ONU只分配一个固定的带宽值，所谓的动态带宽分配根本就没有用起来，一个感觉，对每个ONU来说，相当于EPON就是一个小一号的GE口，又比FE大一点。
在我们国家，好像点对点GE口方式的楼道交换机（也可以叫FTTB）有1千多万线了，现在的EPON FTTB与之相比也没有什么区别，所以还不如选GE的FTTB，成本更便宜。
困惑之处，请各位专家解惑。
我感觉就FTTH方式而言，PON相比大容量交换机的P2P方式没有什么优点。PON的分光看似节省光纤，但是实际使用上还是需要布放很多纤芯的，每个分支不可能只布1芯，1芯光缆怎么敷设？
