1                                                 Introduction

ServiceOn Element Manager (ServiceOn EM) is a flexible platform for managing optical, microwave, packet transport and broadband access networks products. It provides off the shelf integration of all Ericsson’s standard offerings as well as providing the capability to manage multi-vendor SNMP equipment through the open framework and adaptation capability.

1.1                                          General

ServiceOn EM provides functions such as Fault Management, Configuration Management , Performance Management, System Management based on the recommendations from Open Systems Interconnect (OSI) “FCAPS” model. The CM functionality is either embedded or provided using dedicated equipment specific applications as for instance Local Craft Terminals. ServiceOn EM can also be used to mediate FM, PM and Inventory data to other management systems.

The product consists of commercial Hardware platforms and Software packages that can be composed in a modular way to fit the management requirements of networks of various sizes and configurations. All Applications can also be accessed from ServiceOn EM Client.

ServiceOn EM is positioned to provide a cost effective management solution for Ericsson Network Elements covering Microwave, Optical and Broadband Access domains for both Ericsson and other vendors’ equipment with open interfaces for integrations into Customer Network Management environments.

1.2                                          Purpose

The purpose of this document is to provide a technical overview of the ServiceOn EM product. It is intended to be used mainly by Solution architects and Operations engineers to gain a better understanding of the product and its capabilities.
