Instruciton for NWI-E manual upgrade
1        General
This procedure is about the NWI-E manual upgrade procedure instruction.  This Upgrade does only support dual Switch configurations.
2        Revision History

Revision        Date        Prepared by        Main changes
pA        2011-02-22        GUCLIDI        Draft
A        2011-03-31        EZHUHON        when download the image, system will prompt “Do you want to install image after downloading”, type “yes”

3        Prerequisites

Access must be provided by customer to all required nodes, and data freeze requested during implementation period.
For BSC 06B or later VLAN OM_BSC is mandatory. If it is missing, it must be added before running a BLS upgrade from R12 or 06A to 06B or 07A or later. To check if VLAN OM_BSC is present, connect to the BLS and run command
# show vlan
The command response lists the VLANs defined.
3.1        Tool
3.1.1        Cable TSR 491 603(DensiShield connector to RJ-45 connector).
3.1.2        TFTP Server: as a PC/notebook with TFTP Server program

The software shall be used with fully administrator’s authority.

3.2        Prefix:

Port group "External ports" is to be used for connecting the NWI-E to the Site
Network. For more details on supported network solutions see the document
User Guide, BSC NWI-E Configuration, 10/198 17-ANT 330 02 Uen.
Port group "Crosslink" is used to connect the two NWI-E in a BSC to each
other. Port 9 on one NWI-E shall be connected to port 9 on the other NWI-E.
Same goes for port 10.
Port group "Internal ports" is where the BSC internal equipment is connected.
How the equipment is connected is dependant on type of BSC.
Port group "Management" is used for initial installation and for on-site
troubleshooting. The serial interface is used for initial installation and uses
cable TSR 491 616 (DensiShield connector to 9-pin serial connector). The
other management interface is Ethernet-based and uses cable TSR 491 603
(DensiShield connector to RJ-45 connector).

4        Impact
GPRS Traffic disturbance for 1 min (max) will be experienced when during switch side or reboot LS.

5        Installation/Upgrade
Step1: From OSS connection, get ip address and Subnet Mask of ‘configure BSC_Inner add secondary-ipaddress’.
# show config
<Example>:  …
configure vlan BSC_Inner add secondary-ipaddress 10.170.103.2 255.255.255.248

RRAPP:APL=GBI;
Check which IP addresses are use for GBI application in the BSC

Step2: At site, connect the NWI-E board BSC_Inner interface and PC with cable  xxxxxx.    Go to ‘Internet Protocol Version 4 Properties’ of PC’s Network Connection, set PC’s ip address within the same subnet as ‘configure BSC_Inner add secondary-ipaddress’.
NOTE: don’t use the GBI application and vlan BSC_Inner secondary IP address.
<Example>:

Step3: Turn off PC’s firewall with ‘run as administrator’ style to login cmd interface,  and ping the BSC_Inner IP address to check connection status.
Sc stop smcservice                                !stop PC’s firewall!
Ping < BSC_Inner IP address>        !check connection status, if unaccess, check setting!
<Example>:

Step4. PC, log in SolarWinds TFTP Server with ‘run as administrator’ style.  Set the storage path where the upgrade software to be stored.
<Example>:

<Example>:Below is the software list for LS/NWI-E in R12/G10B_CPA1IPA4 package.

Step5. telnet the vlan BSC_Inner secondary IP address, Login NWI-E side to be upgrade, check the status and connection with PC.
Ping <PC ip address>
show log
show version
show config
show vlan
save configuration primary
how ports statistics no-refresh
show switch                        !check primary and secondary image version
<Example>: log of ‘show switch’
…Current State:    OPERATIONAL
Image Selected:   secondary
Image Booted:     primary

Secondary ver:    12.3.1.2

Press <SPACE> to continue or <Q> to quit:Config Selected:  primary.cfg
Config Booted:    primary.cfg

primary.cfg       Created by ExtremeXOS version 12.3.1.2

Step6. NWI-E side to be upgrade, download the upgrade software from previous storage path into NWI-E.
download image <ipaddress> <remote_file> vr VR-Default secondary

<ipaddress> means the PC’s IP address
<remote_file> means the name of upgrade software save in storage path

<Example>:Below is download for LS/NWI-E in R12/G10B_CPA1IPA4 package.

SZ24A_NWI_A.12 # download image 10.128.130.45 summitX-12.5.1.6.xos vr "VR-Default" secondary
Debug information files are present in internal-memory.
These files will be removed if you continue with download.
Do you want to continue with download and remove existing files from internal-memory? (y/N) Yes
Do you want to install image after downloading? (y - yes, n - no, <cr> - cancel) Yes

Step7. OSS, BSC, Block the passive NET (which will be upgrade)
DBTSP:tab=rpsrpigroups;                                !Show the group
BLRCI: GROUP=group, NET=net;                              ! if you upgrade A side NWI-E, NET=A, opposition NET=B!
  DBTSP:tab=rpsrpigroups;

Step8. NWI-E side to be upgrade, download the upgrade software from previous storage path into NWI-E.
use image secondary                 !the upgrade version will be put into ‘Image Selected’
show switch                                !check the secondary image if the new version
reboot
show version
save config secondary
ping SGSN IP from vlan BSC_Inner secondary IP
how ports statistics no-refresh

Step9. OSS, BSC, Deblock the passive NET (which has been upgrade)
DBTSP:tab=rpsrpigroups;                                !Show the Net
BLRCE: GROUP=group, NET=net;
  DBTSP:tab=rpsrpigroups;

Step10. Traffic Test

Step11. Repeat Step1 to Step10 for the other side update.

6        Fallback Criteria and method

Once following serious problems occurred, we have to fallback the system to old system to ensure the traffic restored normal.

No calls/APZ stop/ Cyclic restart        30 Minutes

Limited traffic, no MT or MO calls:        1 Hour

Frequency restarts (more than 3 per hour)        1 Hour

Service affection Faults (e.g. handover, GPRS)        before 5 am

Fallback 1. NO Any GPRS Traffic when during call test on test cell

if serious problem occurred, recover back to origin state
@ LS
F1a) > use image <image before upgrade>
F1b) > reboot
7        Responsibilities

This chapter shall describe those activities that need to be performed by onsite engineer before, during & after on-site implementation.
a.        Trouble shooting when problem occur
b.        Alarm Ceasing
8        Activities performed by customer

This chapter shall describe those activities that need to be performed by the customer before, during & after on-site implementation.
c.        Perform system backup according to time plan
d.        Perform call test as agreed in time plan
