Abstract:The Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) features in support
ing multihoming, multistreaming, end-to-end reliability, message-oriented tr
ansmission, enhanced flow control and congestion control, higher security an
d better scalability compared with the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).
According to the analysis of SCTP’s main applications, it is emphasized tha
t SCTP is expected to become a general transport layer protocol. It can be c
oncluded from current study on SCTP that SCTP is a powerful and promising tr
ansport layer protocol.
Key words: SCTP; transport layer protocol; multistreaming
