RTP复用的问题背景软交换系统的媒体网关（MGW）在IP网络传输语音包时，所采用的结构如表1所示，现有语音包结构在链路上的传输过程中需要增加RTP包头、UDP包头、多协议标签交换（MPLS）协议头、PPP协议头、以太网、同步数字体系（SDH）光网络等开销，由于语音帧所占比重很小，因此实际带宽利用率很低，从而造成传输资源的巨大浪费。

RTP复用的优点

RTP复用技术基于3GPP TS 29.414实现：

RTP Multiplexing Solution:
•
Multiplex a number of voice data packets to one (max packet lengthis 1500 bytes).
•
Supported by MGW (according 3GPP TS 29.414), no special requirementto router.

Benefits:
•
Save IP transmission cost (up to 60% bandwidth saved for AMR 12.2k,e.g.).
•
Reduce the process load of routers because of less packet number.
