3GPP有多个版本，原来在00版不成熟的基础上核心网是用ATM，但最新的版本已经是IP了，所以3G将来的核心网肯定是软交换。

ATM没有被淘汰只是有新的技术发展起来了，，，

ATM has been defined by 3GPP as the main bone network. And IP can run over ATM using AA5 layer.

Now, the development of IP+MPLS over ATM is going on, we can find the productions from Cisco.

The new technology is always coming up. But the defined techonology is not easy to be kicked off.

However, china is really special on persuing very new technology. No, I should say on persuing very new productions.
