Abstract:In this paper, the R&D status of the sensor network and the Ad hoc network is briefly introduced. The differences between them and their market demands are then analyzed. The sensor network is thought to have great application potential in the fields of logistics, intelligent transport systems, medicare, industrial monitoring, security, military and national defense, environments and disaster relief and prevention. And the Ad hoc network is thought to play an important role in communication at battlefields, emergency and temporary communication, wireless personal area network and mesh wireless local area network. Moreover, the multi-hop transfer mechanism of the Ad hoc network optimizes cellular mobile communication systems. In the end, the main obstacles to the further application of these two networks are pointed out.

3.2 Ad hoc网络的典型应用
由于Ad hoc网络具有节点对等、多跳无中心接入、不依赖网络基础设施、抗毁性强等特点,使得它的应用领域与普通的通信网络有着非常大的区别。到目前为止,军事应用仍是Ad hoc 网络的一个主要应用领域,但是民用方面,自组和多跳的特性使其与现有的各种移动通信系统逐步融合起来,呈现了非常广泛的应用前景,如图2所示。
(6)蜂窝移动通信系统的多跳增强
Ad hoc技术与蜂窝移动通信系统相结合,利用移动终端的多跳转发能力扩大蜂窝移动通信系统的覆盖范围、均衡相邻小区的业务、提高小区边缘的数据速率等。因此人们设想在4G中,Ad hoc网络将成为一个重要的组成部分。目前,针对在移动通信网中使用Ad hoc网络的研究工作有很多,其中比较有代表性的是集成蜂窝与自组网中继系统(iCAR)、自组织GSM(A-GSM)以及机会驱动多址接入(ODMA)等。
