先来些热门技术的词语解释开开胃:)

NGN
A Next Generation Network (NGN) is a packet-based network able to provide services including Telecommunication Services and able to make use of multiple broadband, QoS-enabled transport technologies and in which service-related functions are independent from underlying transport-related technologies. It offers unrestricted access by users to different service providers. It supports generalized mobility which will allow consistent and ubiquitous provision of services to users.


3G
3G is an ITU specification for the third generation (analog cellular was the first generation, digital PCS the second) of mobile communications technology. 3G promises increased bandwidth, up to 384 Kbps when a device is stationary or moving at pedestrian speed, 128 Kbps in a car, and 2 Mbps in fixed applications. 3G will work over wireless air interfaces such as GSM, TDMA, and CDMA. The new EDGE air interface has been developed specifically to meet the bandwidth needs of 3G.

  Wi-Fi® is a WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) technology. It primarily provides short-range, high-speed data connections between mobile data devices (such as laptops) and nearby Wi-Fi access points (special hardware connected to a wired network).

Wi-Fi is a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance, a nonprofit industry association. The IEEE technical specification for Wi-Fi is 802.11.

There are several variants of 802.11. The most common is 802.11b, which provides speeds up to 11 mbs. 802.11g and 802.a are faster versions. Many 802.11g and 802.11a products are backward-compatible with the original 802.11b.

Range for Wi-Fi is typically around 100 to 300 feet indoors and 2000 feet outdoors.

Most Wi-Fi operates in the 2.4 GHz unlicensed frequency band. This is the same band as Bluetooth and some cordless phones, although the technologies are designed to co-exist and not interfere. 802.11a operates in the 5 GHz unlicensed frequency band.

Wi-Fi networks can be set up and operated by anyone, with different networks allowing different kinds of access. A public "hot spot" at an airport or coffee shop might charge an hourly rate for access. A hotel might offer free wi-fi to guests. A company or university might offer on-premises free access for verified employees/students. Or a home user could set up their own network to which only they had access.

While most Wi-Fi connections are between a mobile device and an access point, it is also possible to create an "ad-hoc" network directly among two or more devices, without an access point.

to Wi-Fi: From the wording, I think explanation of technical term is right.  actually I am also confused with Wi-Fi.  Since sometime, it refers to an organization.

BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) is a protocol for exchanging routing information between gateway hosts (each with its own router) in a network of autonomous systems. BGP is often the protocol used between gateway hosts on the Internet. The routing table contains a list of known routers, the addresses they can reach, and a cost metric associated with the path to each router so that the best available route is chosen.

FROM CISCO illustrated explanation

The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is an interautonomous system routing protocol. An autonomous system is a network or group of networks under a common administration and with common routing policies. BGP is used to exchange routing information for the Internet and is the protocol used between Internet service providers (ISP). Customer networks, such as universities and corporations, usually employ an Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP) such as RIP or OSPF for the exchange of routing information within their networks. Customers connect to ISPs, and ISPs use BGP to exchange customer and ISP routes. When BGP is used between autonomous systems (AS), the protocol is referred to as External BGP (EBGP). If a service provider is using BGP to exchange routes within an AS, then the protocol is referred to as Interior BGP (IBGP). Figure 39-1 illustrates this distinction.

BGP(Border Gateway Protocol,边界网关协议)是用来连接Internet上的独立系统的路由选择协议。它是Internet工程任务组制定的一个加强的、完善的、可伸缩的协议。BGP4支持CIDR寻址方案,该方案增加了Internet上的可用IP地址数量。BGP是为取代最初的外部网关协议EGP设计的。它也被认为是一个路径矢量协议。

Automatically Switched Optical Network

ASON was developed by Study Group 15 of the ITU-T, the ITU's telecoms standardization sector.

The work was initiated in response to a demand from ITU members to create a complete definition of the operation of automatically switched transport networks, management, control, data plane and all.

ASON is not a protocol or collection of protocols. It is an architecture that defines the components in an optical control plane and the interactions between those components. It also identifies which of those interactions will occur across a multi-vendor divide, and therefore require standardized protocols. Other areas are intentionally not standardized in order to allow vendors or operators to provide  value add .

As with most ITU projects, ASON was (and continues to be) developed in a top-down fashion, starting with a full and explicit list of requirements, moving on to high-level architecture and then individual component architecture. Only when component architecture is defined in detail are protocols held up to the architecture to see if they fit. Any protocol that fits the requirements of the component architecture can potentially get the ASON  stamp of approval .

我再来个CDMA的解释:
Code Division Multiple Access
CDMA stands for Code Division Multiple Access. It is a digital technology pioneered by Qualcomm Incorporated in the United States. It provides crystal clear voice quality in an exciting new generation of wireless communications products and services. Using digital encoding “spread spectrum” radio frequency techniques, CDMA provides much better and costeffective voice quality, privacy, system capacity, and flexibility than other wireless technologies, along with enhanced services such as short messaging, e-mail and Internet access.
   CDMA uses spread spectrum technology to break up speech into small, digitized segments and encode them to identify each call. A large number of users can thus share the same band of spectrum and greatly increase system capacity. In other words, CDMA allows wireless service providers to squeeze more digital signals into a particular slice of the radio network.
   The widely known of CDMA are lower radiation, clearer voice quality, better reception with less background noise, fewer dropped calls, enhanced security and greater reliability. Also, CDMA allows for more users to be on the system at once—greater network capacity, resulting in fewer blocked calls for the users of a CDMA network. In terms of security, the transmission of CDMA are encode digitally. Conversation are broken up and each segment of conversation is assigned a code. On the receiving end, the conversation is reconstructed using the code.

Effective Isotropic Radiated Power. A term for expression of the performance of an antenna in a given direction relative to the performance of a theoretical (isotropic) antenna and is expressed in watts. EIRP is the sum of the power sent to the antenna plus antenna gain.
