Once upon a time, there was a cute little musk deer. One day, while roaming and frolicking among the hills and
dales, the musk deer was suddenly aware of an exquisitely beautiful scent, the like of which it had never known.
The scent stirred the inner depth of its soul so profoundly that notwithstanding the severity of cold or the intensity
of scorching heat, by day as well as by night, the deer carried on its desperate search for the source of the sweet
scent, until at last, happening to lose its foothold on a cliff, it had a precipitous fall resulting in a fatal injury. While
breathing its last, the deer found that the scent that had ravished its heart and inspired all these efforts came from
its own navel. This last moment of the deer's life was its happiest, and there was on its face inexpressible peace.
Note: Dear little friend, in a way we all are a little bit like that musk deer and all have that exquisite scent within
ourselves. But however, we normally are not aware of it, till something happens. For example, when we, for no
reason at all, feel happy and generous, it is that sweet scent stirring our heart; when we feel like crying seeing
others cry, it is also due to that scent. Sometimes, we feel so blissful when mum sings us a lullaby at bedtime, it is
that scent talking to another in the loving communion between mother and son. When we eat an ice-cream, our
heart rejoices, it's that innate scent reaching out to hug life. A typical instance is when we see those grown-ups fall
in love, they are so happy that you can smell their happiness; they are made so big-hearted by love that they are
ready to die for the happiness of the other. That's actually that sweet scent trying to find a twin:-)
But most often, we, like the musk deer, try to search for that scent somewhere else. But true happiness is already
within us, just like the scent is our divine inheritance. As some wise uncle said here not long ago, true happiness is
to be content with where we are and what we are, no more, nor less, for we are already the possessors of that
divine scent. Of course, if God gives us a big bag of money, we take it by all means, who would not? But if he
gives us a pushy mum instead, that's also a gift:-)
Be happy! Enjoy the scent of love every day! God bless you!
