The judge presiding over the Meng Wanzhou case outlined a protocol Monday for the much-anticipated release of her ruling in the high-profile extradition case.
After hearing submissions from the lawyers, B.C. Supreme Court Associate Chief Justice Heather Holmes agreed to give about three days notice of when she will hand down her decision on the double-criminality issue that is at the centre of the extradition process.
On the day the decision is released, lawyers for the federal Crown and Meng will receive an electronic copy of the ruling at 9 a.m. followed by a media lockup at the Vancouver Law Courts at 10 a.m.
Also at 10 a.m., lawyers for the Crown will be allowed to inform the Canada Border Services Agency and the U.S. department of justice of the ruling.
The court also scheduled an in-court appearance for Meng at 11 a.m. on the day the decision is released unless she and the Crown decide that appearance can be done by a teleconferencing call.
