After attracting nearly 550,000 high-speed data subs in 3Q04, Comcast thinks it knows a little about broadband. According to our sister publication CableFAX, that’s why it’s going to deploy the same strategy in next year when it comes to speed increases and additional applications. The cableco has plans to tell customers to expect their 3 Mbps service to ramp up to 4 Mbps without additional cost (some subs have received notice of the upgrade already). The premium 4 Mbps customers will see a free upgrade to 5 Mbps.
The faster speeds will occur throughout the Comcast’s footprint next year. While the cable carrier didn’t specify what new HSD applications and services would launch, executives have been hyping video instant messaging and music services recently. New gaming services also are on the horizon.
