DOVADO is to support the IPWireless PC-Card (PCMCIA) in its new access devices. The result would enable operators to deploy WiFi and centrally-managed Telephony to the residential and enterprise customers by utilizing 3G/UMTS-TDD as the radio backhaul technology, working at any supported radio frequency. The IPWireless 3G/UMTS-TDD technology is based on TD-CDMA, the mobile broadband solution based on the 3GPP standard.
DOVADO has chosen to support the technology throughout the entire product range backed with the help of IPWireless and development partners. Upon release, the W-series of access devices (WRG and WXR) shall contain support for the IPWireless PC-Card. Such a combination will merge the separate devices needed in a home or office to provide the combination of Broadband Internet and Telephony services, offered out of an easy-to-install, lightweight and compact unit. This means that mobile operators and wireless internet services providers would be able to compete in the sector traditionally dominated by the fixed-line operators.

IPWireless and DOVADO have cooperated since early 2004. DOVADO has run a global trial across the range of operators using 3G/UMTS-TDD. In such a trial, operators who used the DOVADO Residential Gateway (RG) in combination with the IPWireless Desktop Modem have responded with positive experiences in regards to the audio quality and remote management capabilities. Both companies are early members of the Global UMTS TDD Alliance.
